Identity theft occurs when someone steals
your personal information in order to commit
a fraudulent
act or theft for his/her own benefit. The
stolen information can include a credit
card number or Social Security number, or
any other personal information that the
identity thief uses by stealing your identity
by pretending to be opening up accounts
on your behalf. An identity theft can result
in large financial charges that hold you
responsible and can negatively influence
your credit. Despite any precautions that
an individual takes they can find themselves
the victim of identity theft. If you would

There are identity theft laws that have
been passed by Congress in order to better
protect victims of identify theft and allowed
for anyone that knowingly transfers
or uses, without lawful authority, a means
of identification of another person with
the intent to commit, or to aid or abet,
any unlawful activity that constitutes a
violation of Federal law, or that constitutes
a felony under any applicable State or local
law to be classified as a federal
crime. Many instances of identity theft
are not even known about until a poor credit
record has resulted. By regularly checking
your credit record individuals are able
to recognize if they have become a victim
of identity theft.
